ReplyDelete"I'ma save your breath for you, Bud. I’ll bet the next thing out of your mouth was going to be, 'What's a union,' right" (Curtis 136)?
Alright I can’t agree here on breathing. I know it is a metaphor, but I like to challenge the text when I have the chance. It is physically not possible to save someone a breath. Just think it would be like cutting open your lungs and letting air come out. First off you would die if you tried that so don’t save someone a breath! It would just kill a person or would give them a heart attack or stroke.
Challenging the Text
What kind of weird metaphors or phrases have you said before?
I don't really use metaphors while casually talking with people, but I bet that they used a lot of metaphors during that time, considering the fact he was using one during a casual talk.

DeleteI have not said any metaphors or phrases in a sentence that I have caught myself saying, on purpose or on accident.
P46 Mrs.Holley Garcia Aubrey Literary Devices
ReplyDelete¨...Man leave these kids alone, you got no call to go prying into his life.”(Curtis 158)
This is an example of a literary device. The device is a hyperbole. A hyperbole is a statement exaggerated or not meant to be taken literally. This is a hyperbole because the man is just saying go to be going around in Bud’s business.
Would you want some going around in your business?
No, especially if it's full of stuff valuable to me.

DeleteNo, I would not want anyone snooping through my things if there was something precious to me hidden in there. Especially, if it was something that no one was able to see unless I gave them permission.

ReplyDelete“By the way I was starting to think that maybe Lefty Lewis was on the lam too. And wait a minute, how come this man didn’t have a real name? Whoever heard of someone’s momma naming him Lefty? That name had alias written all over it!”(Curtis 133) -Inference
Lefty seems to be a questionable character throughout the story. Maybe he is a little too questionable. Bud seems to see this and is starting to question his thoughts about Lefty. I think Bud will soon find out that Lefty is a bad person and will run away again. I also think Bud is going to find his father on his own. “Lefty sounds like a real good name for a stick-up man.”(Curtis 133) (Interpreting/ Making a Prediction)
-What would you do if the person you trusted turned out to be a bad person?

ReplyDelete“He didn’t tell me to meet him here, sir. I come all the way from flint to meet my daddy for the very first time.”
Well, now that Bud has exposed himself that he’s actually from flint, and his father refuses to take him, what next? What if the dad gets in touch with Lewis, and what if Lewis takes him back. It’ll probably be an awkward ride back to the home.
If you would have known that your father was kind of rude, and was not going to take you back, would you still travel all across a state just to get the cold shoulder? Or would you go anyway knowing that you will be able to meet him, whether you expect whats going to happen or not?
P27 Holley Ventura-Reyes, Nalani (Making a Prediction)
ReplyDeleteThis is correct, you should never say something bad about someone that you don’t know. They might be mad, or sad, or they could be happy, and ok with it.
I think something is about to happen that is connecting to this.
