P-27 Ms.Holley Floyd, Nevaeh Characterization and Setting/Extending the Meaning
ReplyDelete“But this wasn’t a really good test because Mrs. Amos had her ears set to believe anything Todd said… She grabbed my arm. Mr. Amos walked out of the room with my suitcase, and Mrs. Amos pulled me down the hall to Todd’s room.”(Curtis 12;16)-Setting(The Amos’s house)
It seems as though Mrs. Amos is small minded in listening to Bud. Although when it comes to her son Todd she listens to him like he is the only truthful thing on her planet. This seems to be true because Bud implies that the ears on her head only listen to what her son says. People are sometimes like this when they have had the routine to do something they like. This statement is true because in the text it says: “But I can’t blame Todd for lying like that, having someone who likes you so much that they think everything you say is the truth has got to be a liar’s paradise, that might feel so good it could make you want to quit lying. But maybe not , ‘cause Todd hadn’t quit lying since the second I came to his house.”(Curtis 12) (Extending the Meaning)
-How would you fell if you found out the person you trusted the most turned out to be a liar?
I would feel offended and feel like I could no longer trust that person
DeleteI would not believe them again even if they were telling the truth.
DeleteI would feel disappointed. I would no longer trust that person.
DeleteI would feel up set and not trust them
DeleteNaveah,
DeleteExcellent post! You have offered great insight and additional support in your response to prove your claims.
In reference to your question, I would not be happy. Trust is lost when people you love lie, and while you should forgive, it is hard to forget.
Carson Hansen,
DeleteI would feel most disappointed.
P15 Mrs.Holley Boyce, Connor Asking a Question
ReplyDelete“I’m not bragging when I say when I’m one of the best liars in the world…”
11
Isn’t that basically bragging?I mean that good and all but rude.Come on man.But I guess you could be saying that because you have lots of practice.
(Asking a Question)
-What would you reply if someone told you that they were the best liar in the world
I would say, "Then how do I know that that's not a lie?"
DeleteMrs. Holley P46 Burgess, Grey (Making a Connection)
ReplyDelete“This was another one of Bud Caldwell’s Rules and Things to Have a Funner Life and Make a Better Liar of Yourself.” (17)
Like Michael in my fiction project novel "Heat", Bud finds himself in situations that no kid should be in. Despite knowing it is wrong to lie, like Michael, he has used lying to get by. Bud seems pretty experienced with lying, unlike Michael. He counts himself as a very good liar.
(Making a Connection)
What would you do if you were in a situation like Bud's?
it depends on the situation i mean if i was being punished for protecting myself yeah id lie if i had too but if its for selfish reasons then i would most likely feel guilty
DeleteCarson Hansen,
DeleteI most likely would have just ran away with the gun in my suit case.
P4/6 Mrs. Holley Adair, T.J.- Making a prediction
ReplyDelete“Todd’s next punch crashed into the side of my ear and I fell on the floor… scooching toward the
bed hoping I could get under it. (10)
This could show that Todd clearly does not like Bud. Maybe Todd thinks that he might take his mother's love from him. Maybe he thinks that if he hurts Bud, Bud will leave.
How would you like it if someone where trying to get rid of you?
bad
DeleteI would feel unwanted and feel like I don't belong.
Deletepretty bad and useless
DeleteI would stand my ground there is no getting rid of me!-Arianna
DeleteI would want to leave because if no one wanted me there their is no reason to be there because none of them like me

ReplyDeletethere comes a time when you're losing a fight that it just doesn't make
sense to keep on fighting. It's not that you're being a quitter, it's just that you've got the sense to know when enough is enough.
i've had these moments too... not physically but there once my friend and i were arguing and i was so obviously right but i gave up trying to convince her
has anybody else had a moment like this
to be honest I had a lot in my past but do you want to know what you should do these feelings you shove them down then you go find who ever is making you feeling them and make them regret it so much that they will never do anything like that again to any one else.

ReplyDelete“I sat down next to him and said, “I know being in a house with three girls sounds terrible, Jerry, but it’s a lot better than being with a boy who’s a couple of years older than you” (Curtis 3).
This quote shows some character traits of Bud. On characteristic I get out of this is that Bud is encouraging. I think this because he makes Jerry feel that everything is going to be okay. Another characteristic I get out of this is that Bud is caring. Bud is caring because he comforts Jerry by telling him everything is going to turn out great.
Do you think you have the same personality trait as Bud?
no not at all

ReplyDelete“And sir, I’m sorry that I got you out of your sleep.”
It’s funny how he acts like everything went well, and then he gets sassy without realizing it. I really do hope that at one point Bud gets a chance to show the boys aggression. Or that he gets sent back to the home where he seemed to be just a tad bit happier. But it’s kind of sad how they adopted or “welcomed him into their home and treated him like he is not human, just a kid who hasn’t been raised at all. But the truth is no one told him what path to take, or ever cared for him since his mother had passed.
Foster Family's: Fair or Unfair?
I believe that there actually pretty unfair to be honest I mean they can pretty much treat you how ever they please as long as they just don't get caught
DeleteP27 Payton Mcwhorter (Prediction)
ReplyDelete“...that meant bad news either they'd found a foster home for somebody or…” page 1
So are they homeless? Are they in a big foster home thing? You know the ones that if you take care of a kid they pay like a hundred a month. So where exactly are they I mean like you shouldn't start a book like this!
Also if you were a foster kid would you be happy to get another foster home or no?

ReplyDelete“...and Bud…” “Oh yes, the Amoses, you’ll be with the Amoses and their son…” (2).
So i'm thinking Bud will be staying with the Amoses. I say this because someone seems to say Bud you'll be with the Amoses. It also mentions they have a son. So now we know he will be getting a home with the Amoses.

Do you think you would like to move with someone you don't kmow??
Nevaeh Floyd
DeleteNo, because their strangers randomly taking me in. So, it would be kind of weird if I had to live with them, and have to get used to their daily routines.

ReplyDelete“That’s how old I was when I came to live here in the Home. That’s how old I was when Momma died.” (6)
This quote tells me that the setting for the section is in a foster home. He most likely came to the Home because his Momma died, but I also think of his father, why couldn’t he take care of Bud. Bud’s dad is probably either dead, working full time, or with another woman. So, Bud is a foster kid that lives in a foster home. His mother died when he was young and his father is unknown.
Do you think Bud was devastated when his mom died; knowing his father wasn't there to comfort him?
Nevaeh Floyd
ReplyDeleteYes, I think Bud would have been devastated, knowing his entire life he only had one parent there for him instead of two.
Hello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteHow are you enjoying the novel so far? Bud, Not Buddy is one of my favorites. Mrs. El Sayed’s and Mr. Hanby’s too. Excited to read all of your posts. I’m proud of you for working hard! Let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holley
P27 Holley,Rockel,Arianna,Questioning the text
ReplyDelete“They were really going to make me sleep in a shed with a patch of blood from that kid who had disappeared out of here a few weeks ago!”(20)
I feel like a kid wouldn’t have disappeared from a centipede. Todd had said he was stung by a centipede. I also feel like it wouldn’t have left a huge patch of blood in the dirt. And wouldn’t the Amos family wash out the shed.
Do you agree with me or do you think that a kid would really die just because of a centipede?
P27 Holley, Ventura-Reyes, Nalani
ReplyDelete“...Mr. Amos was standing with Mrs.Amos. He was carrying my suitcase.”
The main character Bud is a foster kid and he is going to his new foster home the Amoses house.

ReplyDelete“Jerry asked the same thing I was thinking. ‘Together?’...Jerry looked like he’d just found out they were going to dip him in a pot of boiling milk.” (2)
It seems like Jerry and Bud don’t want to be separated. They seem like good friends and that’s why they don’t want to be put in different families. Obviously, Bud’s foster family is bad. We don’t know how Jerry’s family is yet.
P15 Mrs. Holley Carson Hansen
ReplyDelete“When I’d jerked up in bed and opened my eyes Todd was standing next to me with a yellow pencil in his hand” (Curtis pg. 12). “But I can’t blame Todd for lying like that, having someone who likes you so much that they think everything you say is the truth has got to be a liar’s paradise, that might feel so good it could make you want to quit lying” (Curtis pg. 12)
I can’t really agree here because of what the text has just said. If someone loves you so much that the think anything that you say wouldn’t make you want to lie more? If you can get away with lying what is stopping this liar from continuing. It was one of those questions that I had just asked myself while reading.
Challenging the Text
Have you had a time where you lied and someone thought that it was the truth?
P27 Holley, Malachi, Zachry (extending the meaning)
ReplyDelete“Mr. and Mrs. Amos, i’m so grateful for all your help...(Curtis p17)
He is just doing it to trick them. The reason is because he wants to leave to the home. Because the Amos family is terrible and they let there son get away with bad stuff. So that is why he is tricking them.
How would you try to trick someone to get your way?
good point
