"Well, bugs ain't so different from us as you'd think, soon as he saw those tweezers coming at him he was pretty terrified and commenced to screaming, screaming in English too, not some bug language like you'd expect from a roach."

why would someone lie like that roaches cant physically speak English, it is obvious that it was him screaming.

have you people lied to sound brave before...hmm... have you

No, I have not. Never in my life, because I’m not cocky.

    2. Carson Hansen,
No, I have not, because if someone knew you lied then you would sound scared.

    3. Maybe for something small, like oh yeah I totally killed that spider with a sandal, totally did not just throw a sandal at it and it hit it on accident. But for something happening to me I'd definitely tell the actual events and facts.

“I aimed the shotgun at the stove and pretended I was shooting at a elephant or a dragon or a tiger, or best of all, Todd!"

My first reaction was “Oop”. Because I thought he was going to kill someone and be a “murder on the lam”. But then he said his plan was to take away the gun from them because he thought that if they got near the gun they’d shoot him and kill him. Instead, he made Todd wet the bed, so he must’ve gotten in trouble by his mother. I wonder if the mom will catch him. I bet they will try to call the police but they’ll just be like “Ma’am i’m sorry about what happened to your son, but there is no harm being done”, because of how dumb to story makes them sound. The mom may say he went missing, and the police will try to find him.

If you were helping Bud get revenge, what would be your plan to to get revenge?

I would have found a pencil and stuck it up his nose like he did when Bud was sleeping. Just for fun I might have punched him hard as could in the face and ran out of the house as fast as I could.

    2. I would have locked Todd and Mr. and Mrs. Amos in their rooms.

    3. I would have run away just like Bud. But, if the Amoses were all that bad. What if the Amoses actually really hated Bud, and they didn't care that he ran away. What if the Amoses didn't call the police and aren't looking for him. I have a feeling that these are all things that we should be awair of even if we think they did do something about it.

“What I’d thought was a vampire bat hanging on the ceiling was really a hornets nest and now there were about six thousand hornets flying around in the tiny shed and each and every one of them was looking for me!”

This could go to show that Maybe the Amoses put him there to try to kill him or something. Maybe there just not cruel and just to hurt him. Maybe they didn’t know about the nest. These are all great questions.

What do you think is the real question that happened?

    1. I think the Amoses locked Bud in the shed so that he would get stung by all the hornets. I don't think they meant for Bud to get killed because that would be too tragic of an end for our little sixth grade hearts to handle.

    2. I honestly believe that Grey and TJ are correct. We alkl have different things to say about this story. Even though we are on Chapter 15 now...There are still so many things that are a mystery.

“...but most of all I was mad at me for believing there really was a vampire in the shed and for getting trapped like this where there wasn’t anybody who cared what happened to me.”(Curtis 29)-Point of View

The point of view for these pages is in first person because Bud uses a first person word “I”. Apparently Bud can get very agitated with himself if he does something wrong. When this happens he must have a very low self esteem. I say this because he is scolding himself on his performance in handling the shed situation. Also, he must feel a little depressed because he thinks nobody cares about him. Which is pretty sad once you think about it, because he has been an orphan for four years without his mom and he never had a dad in his life. I wonder why he is thinking about things in his life like this.(Interpreting/Asking a Question)

-Have you ever been in a situation where you were putting yourself down?

  5. P46 Mrs.Holley Garcia,Aubrey Extending the Meaning

“I bet a thousand dollars that there were roaches on the floor of his shed, just waiting to crawl into someone's ear” (Curtis 24).

In this quote Bud thinks cockroaches are going to crawl into his ear. He thinks it is going to be like his friend Bug. Bud thinks that if it happens and screams but the Amos family won't hear him. He feels he will be like the other foster kids they have had like Todd mentioned, but wasn’t very true.

Have you ever worried about bugs and if they are coming to get you?

    1. Yes. When I was in preschool I taped a sign to my door that said, "Bugs, stay out of my room!"

“Up at the very top of the shed was the biggest vampire bat you’d ever seen!” (Curtis 25-26)

I remember when me and my family were staying in a cabin in Canada. During the night, a bat came in the cabin! The men were throwing tennis balls at it, trying to get it out of the cabin. Both me and Bud have had experiences with bats.

Have you ever had any bat experiences?

”I lowered the gun. These things were just too dangerous to play with or take chances with…” (33)

I think that it was good that he didn’t use the gun. If he did, he would get in a lot of trouble and be considered a murderer. Using the gun could have also been dangerous because I don’t think that Bud has had any experience with guns before, and it is possible that he could’ve gotten more hurt than the person he was intending on hurting. It was a safe alternative to just make Todd wet his bed, because his parents will most likely trust him less and not believe some of his lies.

“The only thing I could hear was my own breath. It was loud that it sounded like there were six scared people locked up in the shed” (Curtis pg. 21). “The next thing that I noticed made me wish I’d stayed asleep. Up at the very top of the shed was the biggest vampire bat you’d ever see” (Curtis pg. 25-26)!

I think that I can kind of connect here. I have had times where I can hear my own breath. In some cases I can hear little sounds which are usually quiet, but was loud. Sometimes a small ticking will feel like it is getting louder over time as well in my case.

“What I really thought was a vampire bat was a hornets nest...(Curtis p32)

I don’t think someone would confuse a vampire bat with a hornets nest. It doesn't make any sense. There was also light in the shed. Only someone that has bad eyesight would maybe think it was a vampire bat.

would you confuse a vampire bat for an hornets nest?
